Following the record in GoRecord Link

How to open your case, follow testimony as the reporter writes it, and keep your own flags, notes, and page:line references while the record streams. One code covers every day of the case. There is nothing to install, and what you mark stays in your browser.

Open your case

Your court reporter or ERS coordinator gives you a short case code before the proceeding starts.

  1. Go to gorecord.link

Use any current browser on a laptop, tablet, or phone. There is nothing to install. Your own device is the default. ERS laptop equipment is $100.00/day, invoiced later. ERS provides a laptop set up for realtime viewing.

  2. Enter the case code

Type the code, for example okafor, and choose Open transcript. You can also go straight to gorecord.link/ followed by the code.

  3. Complete the access step

Some cases ask for a passcode. Others ask you to enroll, wait for staff approval, and accept an agreement. Follow the step shown for your case. If you are stuck, ask the ERS coordinator for your case.

  4. Read as the reporter writes

Testimony appears as the reporter writes it, laid out like the printed transcript: Q. and A. examination, speaker bylines, and page:line numbers.

Work the live record

All of this works while testimony is still arriving. Point at a line on a computer, or tap it on a tablet or phone, to show its actions.

  1. Follow the newest line

The viewer keeps the newest testimony in view. Scroll up to read back and following pauses. Choose Resume live to catch up again.

  2. Flag testimony that matters

Choose Flag on a line to save it. Flagged lines collect under Flags so you can return to key exchanges.

  3. Add a private note

Choose Add note to write against a line: a follow-up question, an impeachment reference, a reminder. Notes stay in your browser.

  4. Copy a page:line reference

Choose Copy page:line reference to put the case caption and page:line on your clipboard, ready for an outline or an email.

  5. Search or go to a line

One box in the header does both. Press / or g, then type words to find them, a reference such as 43:9 or 42:12-14 to go there, or Day 2 43:9 to open another day at that line. Step through word matches with Previous match and Next match. On a case with several days, set the scope to All days to search the whole case.

  6. See who is speaking

The Speakers panel lists everyone on the record, each with a steady color, and marks who is speaking now.

  7. Track exhibits

Exhibits mentioned on the record collect under Exhibits with their first reference. Choose one to go back to where it came up.

One code, every day

A deposition, hearing, or trial can run for days or weeks. Your code belongs to the case, so bookmark it once and it opens every day.

  1. The reporter adds each day

Each new day of the proceeding is added to the same code. Your link keeps working.

  2. Switch days on the day board

The day board under the header lists every day of the case, with the day on screen underlined. The current day streams live; earlier days open for reading.

  3. Search across the case

With All days selected, results are grouped by day. Choose a result and the viewer opens that day at the exact line.

Feature reference

The session lamp
The lamp at the right of the header shows the record's state: On the record while the reporter is capturing, Off the record with the time a recess began, and Capture stopped when the reporter stops. An unlit lamp reading Not capturing or Source feed means GoRecord is not capturing that day itself. A dropped connection appears beside the lamp and never changes its words.
Traditional and Modern
Traditional shows the court-reporting page: fixed pitch, page:line gutter, Q. and A. indents, and folios. Modern sets the same lines in a reading face with grouped speaker turns. Your place, search, flags, and notes stay put when you switch, and your choice is remembered on this device.
Speakers and colors
Each participant keeps one color in the Speakers panel. In Modern view, a short mark in that color shows where their turn begins; Traditional stays a plain page. The Speakers panel shows who is speaking now.
Private work product
Flags and notes are stored in your own browser. They are never sent to the reporter or the other side and never become part of the record.
Source backup
Open the full source transcript opens the reporter's live feed in a new tab, a direct fallback to the raw source.
References
Copy any page:line as a clean case reference. On a case with more than one day, the reference names the day, because page and line numbers start again each day.
Issues
Tag a line with one or more private issue labels, such as damages or notice. The Issues panel groups every tagged line so you can build an issue index as testimony runs.
Chapters
In Modern view, chapters mark where parts of the testimony begin, such as direct and cross. They help you move around; they never change page and line numbers.
Export center
Where ERS has turned export on for the case, the Export center prints an index of your flags, notes, objections, and issue tags across every day, ready to save as a PDF. A backup file of your private work is always available, so you can move it to another browser.
New-testimony announcements
Screen reader users can choose, in View options, whether new testimony is announced as it arrives.
Transcript layout
Q. and A. examination, "BY MR. SMITH:" bylines, centered parentheticals, and page:line numbering that follows the reporter's pages.
Protected cases
The transcript is the reporter's work product. On protected cases, selecting, copying, and printing are turned off, a watermark shows where the text came from, and copy actions copy the reference only.
Light and dark
The theme control switches between light and dark. Left on System, the viewer follows your device setting.
On a phone
Search opens from the header with its day scope. The panel handle slides Speakers, Flags, Notes, Issues, and Exhibits in and out while you read.

About the rough draft

Rough draft โ€” realtime, uncertified. Not for citation.

You are reading the reporter's realtime rough draft, written as testimony happens. It can contain untranslated shorthand and errors, and the reporter may correct lines as they go. Corrections reach your view automatically. The certified transcript is the official record. Use this draft to follow along and mark your work, and quote from the certified transcript.
